SOLVED – Roberta Walls

The Virginia Beach Police Department is proud to announce that justice has finally been served for Roberta Walls and her family, 40 years after her tragic rape and murder.
Today, our command staff held a press conference to share how modern DNA technology successfully solved this decades-old cold case. While some of the original detectives from the 1980s are no longer with us to witness this day, we know they would be incredibly proud. This breakthrough stands as a powerful testament to the relentless persistence of our detectives, who refused to let Roberta be forgotten.
We hope this closure brings a measure of peace to the Walls family and sends a clear message: no matter how much time passes, we will never stop searching for the truth.
On Wednesday, May 15, 1986 at 6:30 am, Roberta Walls’ body was found in the field behind Old Donation Elementary School located in the 1000 block of Ferry Plantation Drive.  She was found with obvious signs of trauma due to a violent assault.  Roberta’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.  Her death was the result of homicide.  Investigators determined Roberta had last been seen alive the night before at the Bayside Public Library located across the street from the location of Roberta’s murder.
She was known to frequent the Aragona area of Virginia Beach and the Ocean View area of Norfolk.  Roberta was a 22 year old white female who worked as an office worker.  She had hazel eyes, shoulder length brown hair and stood 5’ 3’’ tall weighing 134 pounds.  Roberta had tattoos on her arm and abdomen.
